How Is Kidney Failure Treated?

Your kidneys are the vital organs of your body that help in keeping your body balanced. Kidneys filter out the waste, toxins, and excess fluid from your blood, which exits your body through urine. Besides their filtering ability, your kidneys also help maintain the electrolyte balance in your body, aids in the formation of red blood cells and also help in controlling your blood pressure.

When your kidney loses its filtering ability, toxins and excess fluid start accumulating in your body, leading to kidney disease, leading to kidney failure. This, in turn, affects the normal functioning of your kidneys, resulting in various chronic health complications.

According to doctors, kidney failure means either your kidney loses almost 80% to 90% of its functions or your kidneys aren’t capable enough to keep you alive. Hence, kidney failure can be life-threatening if it isn’t addressed on time.

Besides affecting physical health, kidney failure can also lead to erection problems in men. The inability to have an erection is one of the common problems reported by many men suffering from kidney failure. This can be due to leaky blood vessels, nerve damage, hormonal imbalances and poor blood supply to the penis. However, the issue can be resolved with medications like cenforce 200.

Sildenafil citrate is an active ingredient in cenforce 200 that helps maintain the blood flow to the penis, thus causing an erection. But as cenforce 200 contains a high dose of sildenafil and has some potential side effects and drug interactions, enforce 200 should be used cautiously after consulting a doctor.

Though kidney failure can’t be reversed or cured by any means, however, dialysis or kidney transplant can slow the progression of damage and may extend your lifespan.

Symptoms Of Kidney Failure

Some people may not notice any symptoms in the early stage. However, when your kidney fails to carry out its normal functions, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Loss of appetite
  • Extreme weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Itching
  • Swelling in feet or ankle due to accumulation of fluid
  • Muscle cramps
  • Anemia
  • Confusion
  • Pain or tightness in the chest
  • Lack of urine
  • Shortness of breath
  • In extreme cases, patients may get seizures or slip into a coma.

Some patients may also face trouble in getting an erection. Most doctors prescribe PDE5 inhibitor pills like cenforce 200 to the patients to get back their erections. Cenforce 200 can interact with a few medicines or diseases and can increase your chances of side effects. However, the evidence against the interaction between cenforce 200 and kidney failure is not well established.

Studies showed that one could have cenforce 200 during kidney failure but only after consulting his doctor. But extra precautions need to be taken while having cenforce 200 with existing kidney disease as the overdose may worsen the situation.

Causes Of Kidney Failure

Kidney failure can occur either due to lack of blood supply to the kidney or problem in urination. The factors affecting the above two conditions include:

  • Heart disease or heart attack
  • Liver problem
  • Severe dehydration
  • Severe burns
  • Allergic reactions
  • Sepsis
  • High blood pressure
  • Certain anti-inflammatory medications
  • Prostate issues
  • Kidney stones
  • Blood clots in the urinary tract
  • Prostate or bladder surgery
  • Nerves damage

Apart from the factors that reduce the blood flow to your kidneys and create problems while urinating, the following are the few causes that can also lead to kidney failure:

  • Infection
  • Blood clots
  • Drugs and alcohol abuse
  • Metal poisoning
  • Inflammation of blood vessels, known as vasculitis
  • Autoimmune diseases like lupus
  • Inflammation of the kidney’s tiny blood vessels, known as glomerulonephritis.
  • Breakdown of red blood cells, known as hemolytic uremic syndrome
  • Blood-related disorders like multiple myeloma
  • Certain chemotherapy drugs used in the treatment of cancer and some autoimmune diseases
  • Some specific antibiotics
  • Diabetes
  • Certain dyes used in x-ray or other imaging techniques

Treatment Of Kidney Failure

Treatment of kidney failure depends upon the cause and the stage of the disease. However, doctors mostly prescribe dialysis and kidney transplant to ease the symptoms and slow down the progression of kidney failure.

Dialysis

Dialysis is carried out to filter and purify the blood. It is usually done when your kidneys cannot remove waste from your body, and only 10 to 15% of your kidney’s functions are left. Dialysis doesn’t treat kidney failure, but it can extend your life if you regularly go for treatment sessions.

Dialysis can be done in the following two ways:

Hemodialysis

This is carried out to filter the blood with the help of a dialysis machine and a filter or dialyzer in a hospital.

The doctor gets your blood into the dialyzer with a small, minimally invasive surgery, which consists of two parts separated by a thin membrane. Blood cells and essential things remain in your blood as these are too large to pass through the membrane. Whereas smaller toxins, waste products, and excess fluid in your blood pass through the membrane and are washed out.

Usually, hemodialysis is carried out 3 times a week and takes around 4 hours at a time.

Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis is carried out by placing a fluid inside the stomach. Then, with the help of surgery, a catheter is placed inside your stomach. With the use of a catheter, a sterile cleansing fluid is placed in your stomach. Once the filtering process is completed, the fluid is removed from your body through the catheter.

Kidney Transplant

A kidney transplant is another method used to treat kidney failure. During a kidney transplant, your defective kidney is removed and replaced with a healthy kidney from a donor.

To prevent the rejection of the kidney, doctors mostly prescribe immunosuppressant drugs.

Apart from these methods, limiting alcohol intake, quitting smoking, having a healthy diet, and exercising regularly are a few lifestyle changes that can increase your lifespan.
